Recent studies of asteroid Bennu have revealed that it contains all five nucleobases present in DNA and RNA, as well as 14 of the 20 amino acids that are essential for known proteins. Interestingly, the amino acids found in Bennu display almost equal amounts of 'left-handed' (dominant in Earth organisms) and 'right-handed' structures. This discovery challenges the prevailing theory that similar asteroids could have been responsible for seeding life on Earth, prompting scientists to reevaluate the origins of biological molecules.
